Martin Mabutho is currently the Chief Customer Officer at MultiChoice Nigeria.
Before attaining this position, he had climbed steadily through the ranks – working as the Brand Manager at M-NET from 2003 – 2007, then serving a two-year stint as the Sales and Marketing Manager at DStv Mobile, before going on to gain promotion as the Head; Marketing and Sales (Sub Saharan Africa) for the same company. Next, he worked as the General Manager, Sales and Marketing for MultiChoice Nigeria, before settling in to become the company’s Chief Customer Officer in October 2018.
The Netng team recently caught up with Martin for a chat, and the first thing we did was to congratulate him on DStv’s ranking as one of Top 100 Most Admired Brands in Africa in the 2020 edition of Brand Africa’s annual list of the best brands on the continent.
Martin expressed his gratitude for the recognition and that it motivated him and the team to do more.
He went on to explain that paying attention to customer feedback, constantly looking for avenues to improve processes across their supply chain, while giving their customers the most delightful experience has been the secret sauce for growing the MultiChoice brand into the media and entertainment powerhouse it is today.
According to Martin, the driving force for MultiChoice is putting the customer first.
“The goal has always been and will always be customer satisfaction. This is the driving force behind what we do at MultiChoice, and it guides our direction and decisions as a brand.”
This attention to customer needs and feedback is no doubt why DStv has remained committed to giving their customers the very best in entertainment and has continued to empower African storytelling. With productions like the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Tinsel, Big Brother Naija, and other top-notch Africa Magic productions, MultiChoice has played a massive role in shaping Nigerian pop culture.
Nigerian pop culture is impressively pervasive, influencing the rest of Africa and is now spreading across the world. This might be why the Nigerian entertainment industry keeps growing. Martin sees this as fact, citing a report about the estimated worth of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
“Nigeria has always been at the forefront of entertainment in Africa, and Naija’s pop culture influence reaches far beyond the continent. According to PwC, Nigeria’s entertainment and media industry will cross the $10 billion dollar mark by 2023.
“At MultiChoice, we clearly understand this opportunity, and we continuously strive to improve our customers’ experiences with top quality productions and services.”
One thing Nigerians have in spades is creativity, and Martin Mabutho agrees. According to him, Nigeria is full of amazing opportunities for creatives, content creators, and storytellers. He also remarks that MultiChoice is committed to empowering Nigerian creatives to tell Nigeria’s unique stories in the best possible way.
“Nigeria is full of fantastic opportunities for creative people and multimedia content creators. Beyond the size of the population, Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity also provides an unlimited supply of untold stories and exciting ideas that people at home and abroad continue to fall in love with.
“As Africa’s leading storytellers, our mission at MultiChoice is to empower Nigeria’s creatives to tell these stories in the best possible way, and to reach as many people as possible, across the continent and beyond.”
With the support of the MultiChoice team, and by focusing attention on customer feedback, Martin Mabutho remains confident of continued success for the brand.
