Incase you don’t know, Nigerian music star, 9ice has a mentor.
In fact, he rates the individual far above just being a mentor. He has said it several times that Haiti-born American music superstar, Wyclef Jean inspires him in more ways than one.
As a matter of fact, the Ogbomoso-born star dedicated a soulful, deeply reflective song titled ‘Music Daddy’ to Wyclef in his first album, Certificate.
What they both have in common, apart from music, however, is interest in partisan politics. Back in 2010, Wyclef declared his intention to contest as president in his native Haiti but was no longer in the frame by the time the ballots were cast in 2011. Wyclef was declared to unqualified to contest as part of the electoral guidelines regarding residency in the country.
Now, 9ice is toeing the same line, seeking a Federal House of Representatives seat to represent Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South, Orire Constituency and at the moment, the singer claims the results of his party’s primaries held on December 7, 2014 are still inconclusive as against reports making the rounds that he has lost.
So it remains to be seen if 9ice, whose real name is Abolore Akande, will fail where his mentor and ‘music daddy’ failed even if they did not contest for the same position.
