The late Iyetade Verity Soyinka, daughter of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka was on January 10, 2014 buried in the city of Ibadan.
A funeral service was held at Chapel of the Resurrection Church, University of Ibadan shortly followed by the interment which took place at a private cemetery – Ultimate Gardens.
The burial was attended by top Nigerian dignitaries including the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, many Ogun state officials and of course family and friends.
According to customs in traditional Yoruba land, an elder family member should not attend a younger relative (sibling, daughter, niece etc) funeral, hence Iyetade’s father – Nobel Prize Winner and respected writer Wole Soyinka’s absence at the function.
Ms Soyinka, who passed away on December 28, 2013 at the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan, after a brief illness, was 48 years old.
