What started with Olamide and Don Jazzy on New Year’s Day at the Headies infected even ties that go beyond music, as in the case of the Psquare family.
WORLD EXCLUSIVE: ‘How my brothers ganged up against me’ – Psquare’s Peter Okoye opens up
Rivalry between these two was always inevitable. Although Wizkid won our hearts first, Davido came on the scene and made us love him.
Nigerian fans have hoped in vain for collaboration between these two. This ‘dream’ project, which one expects to be truly amazing, was fast becoming something like a fable, and we had just about given up on it all until… Pepsi.
As corny as this may sound, Davido’s new Pepsi deal has somehow given us hope. Hope which couldn’t have come at a better time.
With Wizkid’s growing influence as an international artiste, starting with Drake and Skepta’s Ojuelegba remix to the more recent feature on Drake’s One Dance, a Billboard Top 10 chart hit, and Davido’s new multimillion-dollar global deal with Sony Music, these two are at the peak of their careers.
With them as allies, there’s no limit to the benefit to Nigerian music, especially on the international scene.
These are not too distant dreams for real and we sure can raise a glass of Pepsi and cognac on ice to that. Salute!
