It’s the social media age and over time we’ve seen a lot of celebrities get thrashed online by their fans, most times for no reason.
Iyanya, who recently signed a record deal with Mavin, is no exception. He’s been bullied online a number of times and seems to have learnt some lessons from his social media experience.
NET Exclusive: ‘All you need to know about my new deal with Don Jazzy’ – Iyanya speaks
In this chat with Thenetng, he explains what he has learnt from using social media.
‘Social media puts you under so much pressure, too much unnecessary pressure and I’ve learnt that we don’t have to put everything out there. For social media, just show them what they need to see. I’ve learnt that social media is not a place you should depend on for strength. Your fans are there, they want music, give them music. They want videos, give them videos. They want to know how your last show went, show them,’ he said.

He continued, ‘Don’t go showing them your girlfriend or other personal stuff. When you have something that’s precious and priceless, you have to guard it, so if you have a girlfriend that you love, why are you putting her on social media? Keep it to yourself at least till you put a ring on her finger then you can now show her as your wife.’
