On Wednesday, October 1, 2014, the just-completed state-of-the-art broadcasting platforms, Cool/Wazobia TV will commence test transmissions for a period of one month before the stations are fully launched on November 1, 2014.
The new TV stations are to operate on Channel 195 and 196 respectively on Star Times digital platform.
In a chat with NET, Amin Moussalli, the boss of World Entertainment Television, owners of the stations, said the project has cost six times more than the initial budget. When asked how much the project costs, he said: ‘That’s a difficult question. The truth is there are some television owners in this country who told me they spent about $20 million to install their studio. Ours is different, we’ve learnt how to fix a TV at a lesser cost and still have the best in the land. I can tell you that you can spend $20 million for a standard TV station. I don’t want to tell you who told me; all I’m saying is we have cheaper and latest technology to consult for existing and prospective TV owners.’
Despite further probing as to whether the project has cost the company over a billion naira, he said: ‘That’s the point, I don’t want to give you exact figures, but we did it cheaper than others. In our own case, we have so far spent six times more than the initial budget we planned for this project, and we are still spending. With our deep knowledge in the industry, we are now contractors.’
