Vincent Enyeama has been named the best African player in French Ligue 1 football championship for the 2013/2014 seasons.
Enyeama, who plays for Lille FC in France, was picked for the Marc-Vivien Foé Award by French football journalists from all branches of media, after his impressive performances on the football pitch.
The number 1 keeper outshone Ivorien defender Serge Aurier (Toulouse FC) and Cameroonian international player Henri Bedimo (Olympique Lyonnais) to win the award.
Enyeama, who is set to feature in the World Cup in June 2014, succeeds Borussia Dortmund‘s Gabonese international striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who won it after a successful season with St. Etienne last season.
Enyeama is the first Nigerian player to win the award.
The trophy for the Best African Ligue 1 player was renamed Marc-Vivien Foé Award in 2011, in honor of the Cameroonian player who slumped and died during a match in Lyon’s Gerland stadium on June 26, 2003.
