Celebrated journalist and publisher of Bravo Weekly, Dada Eriye has been reported dead.
Eriye who hails from Delta State, was reported to have died on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of LUTH, after suffering severe burns from a generator accident in his house during the weekend.
According a message contained in a Blackberry broadcast sent across by his friends and colleagues, Dada Eriye died from cardiac arrest after suffering severe burns.
The messages reads: ‘Mr. Dada Eriye, Publisher of Bravo Magazine, Lagos was involved in a serious domestic fire accident as he was fuelling his generator at about 11.30pm on Saturday, February 14, 2015. He was rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and rejected by the doctors there. They advised he should be taken to Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital, Lagos.’
Alleging that authorities at the hospital were not alive to their duties as they rejected the late journalist, the message says: ‘The hospital demanded for N250,000 to be paid at that hour before admission. Those who took him there started another round of crying and begging again that they would bring the money when bank opens by Monday morning. Sources revealed he has been unconscious and on life support machine at LUTH since then. He died few minutes ago from Cardiac arrest.’
Late Dada Eriye, who was in his 50s at time of his untimely passing, was once the editor of City People Magazine and News of the People magazines. He is survived by his wife and young son.
