So many clothes from the yesteryears seem to be storming back into vogue.
Looks like it’s okay to call them ‘the originals’ as the colorful tribal African print dashiki tops are back to take their place.
Although the origin of the name, Danshiki is unclear, it is believed to be more popular among the Yorubas in Nigeria, who also use it to refer to top or native shirt. The cloth is the common colorful loose-fitting attire is a design with an ornate V-shaped collar, and tailored neck and sleeve lines.
This particular print, which has been in existence since forever, seemed to take a long break for several years but got back into lime-light in recent times. In fact, when Wizkid wore the dashiki in his video, ‘Show me the money’, it increased substantially in the market.
And what’s more? Other international celebrities like Rihanna, Chris Brown and Beyoncé have also spotted the top at different times.
