I thought it was interesting that two Sundays back, we had the 2014 edition of the Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, and then the next day the trial of Oscar Pistorius began.
– Perhaps Oscar deserves an Oscar
Oscar Pistorius is doing a good job during his trial — looking genuinely contrite and devastated, even shedding tears and breaking down.
Before Denzel Washington, there was Sidney Poitier and it broke my heart to see him at the Oscars, looking a lot older.
Time… Happens to everyone. Seize the day.
– ‘NEBRASKA’
What was so special about this movie that it had so many nominations including Best Picture, Supporting Actor and Actor in a Lead Role?
‘Nebraska’ is a story of a simple journey that ended in a breakthrough and even though I knew it wouldn’t win, it was still heartwarming to see the likes of Bruce Dern right in front at the Awards.
– Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are the movie Jay Z and Beyonce
When Brad and Angelina began dating, I absolutely loved their love. Brad seems less ‘pretty boy’ and more grown and sexy with her and he also seems to calm her.
At the Oscars, they are always the power couple to look at and this year they didn’t disappoint!
– Leonardo DiCaprio
Five times and no Oscar? Shame. Leonardo Oscar stans (I’m a card carrying member) wonder why they still haven’t given him the Oscar! Of course, I will admit Matthew deserved the Best Actor Oscar.
Leo will win his Oscar (spoken like a true stan), but I think the genius thing about Leo is, he doesn’t need that Oscar to be a genius actor.
– It takes a village
Practically every winner got on stage and thanked an agent. I looked at Hollywood seated there and imagined how many agents, managers, casting agents, publicists, greeters, escorts and more it took to bring them all there. We never see those behind the scenes, but they are working harder sometimes than the talent to ensure there are Oscar-worthy films and talents every year.
The fact that Jennifer Lawrence has slipped twice (once on her way to the stage last year, and now on the red carpet) seems to me a good reason for her stylists to put her in short dresses from now on.
What I love about her though is the fact that she gets up, smiles and still has fun.- Ellen DeGeneres is a boss
Ellen hosted the Oscars and gave them their highest ratings in a decade. Her live show after the Oscars also had high ratings.
Ellen hosted and didn’t try to be like anyone else; she stayed her crazy gimmicky self. From taking selfies to ordering pizza, she gave the usually stuffy crowd something to smile about.
– Peter Nyong’o
I’d like to introduce you to my new friend, Peter.
Talk about taking your fifteen seconds and shining!
Peter is, of course, Oscar winner, Lupita Nyong’o‘s brother — the same brother who photo-bombed the most retweeted selfie ever.
That was not the only picture he took though; he also got pictures with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Will Smith and many other actors.
Check out his instagram page for more.
– Lupita, imma let you have your moment, but Matthew had the best acceptance speech of the night!
Matthew McConaughey‘s speech made me sit up and applaud.
First, he thanked God and the room went silent. In a room of all kinds of atheists, he was not afraid to reveal his beliefs. He also spoke with the famous Matthew drawl, and pointed out that his hero is himself… In the future. That’s who he’s always looking up to.
And of course, he ended with, ‘alright alright alright’.
