The week gets bad press but because it is usually so structured, we end up secretly loving it.
Cut to the weekend and it’s like 48 hours of anything can happen. Frequently, nothing does and it is Monday again.
However, I may have found the recipe for a perfect weekend.
Leaving the week behind: The first thing to do to enjoy the weekend is to actually leave the week behind. Don’t carry over work or worries from Thursday into Saturday.
Sleep: When I see a random tweet saying, ‘I slept all day’, I can almost tell how satisfied that person is. Sleeping all day is beautiful, and relaxing. Just don’t sleep all day on Sunday and then not be able to sleep on Sunday night…
Amazing company: Surround yourself with amazing people who laugh, smile, dance, drink, eat and have fun at the weekend and it would rub off on you!
Amazing food: Speaking of ‘eating’…never underestimate the power of good food. Go for a chef special, or wine tasting, or eat at a different restaurant. It will brighten up your weekend!
Good television: Hey! What’s a weekend without good television? Be it football, Project Runway marathon, sitcoms or some random reality shows, there’s always something putting a smile on your face.
An event… or two: Going out for two, three hours because mingling is a great recipe for a good weekend. It gives you a few laughs with the amazing company we mentioned earlier. Plus, it helps you network (which is working but not really).
Something random: Weddings, birthdays or concerts are all usual. Try a train ride, a park (don’t faint, they exist), go watch a game. Do something random and have stories to tell come Monday.
Be a tourist: You may think you have seen and done it all but if you step back and treat yourself like a tourist one of these weekends you’ll see Lagos/Nigeria differently.
Cocktails: Hey! Look, the right cocktail will help the weekend pass pleasantly. #JustSaying
You: Don’t forget the most important element in making the weekend rock — You!
