American singer, Alicia Keys shocked her fans world when she went posted on her Instagram page, a nude picture of herself with her hands cupping her breasts and a peace sign painted on her baby bump.
The controversial picture came along with a message that read, ‘It’s you and me on a mission to create a kinder and more peaceful world. The #WeAreHere Movement begins today. Read more here and thank you @nickkristof for sharing your bright voice with all of us’
The 33-year-old explained to New York Times it was a deliberate attempt to get the attention of her fans and remind them of the need to take active measures in combating the many anomalies going on in the world.
She says since last month’s news of the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson and recent events in the Middle East, she has had to consider her role in the world adding that a question posed to her by a friend about the reason for her existence further fuelled her drive to go this far.
The peace sign on her bump, she says is a representative of the WeAreHere Movement, her charitable campaign and the title of her latest song.
She hopes to bring people together and help people find ways to make an impact rather than just contemplate the atrocities in the world and not do anything about it, ‘I want to gather an army, It’s time to get people’s attention. People won’t be able to ignore this visual’, she told NYT.
