While some teams were busy dazzling us and giving us fashion ideas, some decided to mess with our eyes and give fashion critics something to talk about. Here’s a look at some of the worst dressed opening ceremony outfits.
1. Germany
Talk about combining dull colours in the worst possible manner. The German team certainly made our eyes hurt with their drab, badly combined outfits.

2. Ethiopia
Possibly the worst outfit of the night, the Ethiopian team looked like they just dipped themselves in a bowl of badly mixed tie-dye solution.

3. China
The Chinese outfit was so bad, it earned them the hashtag #ScrambledEggsWithTomatoSauce. Looking at the horrible combination of bright yellow and red, which the men (for reasons best known to them) paired with multicoloured ties, we can see exactly why.

4. Sweden
The Swedish team, with their nylon-like garish yellow outfits, got a lot of backlash on social media and you only have to look at the pictures to know why.

5. Australia
Team Australia wouldn’t have made the list if their hideous shorts (or skirts?) hadn’t been combined with badly striped blazers that made them all look ridiculously broad-shouldered.

6. USA
Yes! The US team were generally a disappointment, as one would expect better from a nation that is home to some of the most notable fashion designers today.
They were criticized for their combination of white, blue and red, which came out oddly resembling the Russian flag

7. Ireland
We hear the United States is to blame for this atrocious outfit. Nice one, America. You had to drag another nation into this list.

8. Norway
The overly busy pattern of the Norwegian outfit hurt our eyes a little too much. Definitely a no no.

9. Croatia
Checkers are certainly not a great idea for uniforms (unless you’re a secondary school student), so this was certainly one of the worst outfits of the night.

10. Thailand
Team Thailand looked more like a group of ’80s singers, with their shiny mustard-coloured suits and yellow ties.

Which team was the overall worst dressed in your opinion?
