23-year-old Arianna Quan is receiving backlash about her appearance both in her native country of China and her naturalised one, the United States, after becoming the first Asian-American to be crowned Miss Michigan in June.
‘All this negativity came out,’ Quan told People magazine, ‘especially about my appearance and how I’m apparently unfit to represent the Chinese population because I’m ‘ugly.’
Wow!
As such, she’s dealing with all the hate in the classiest way possible, even going so far as to thank the trolls for starting a discussion. ‘I see it as a part of my job as a state title-holder and potential Miss America’, Quan said.
‘My goal is to just drive the conversation in an important direction, because there are so many things we have to discuss about immigration and diversity in this country right now.’
Sign my name, sign my name Michigan is officially on the map! #missmichigan #crownbound

She’ll be competing in the Miss America competition in Atlantic City this Sunday with the platform, ‘Being American: Immigration and Citizenship Education,’ in an effort to raise awareness for the country’s diversity.
See for yourself if she’s just as ugly as people describe her…
