The battle is on for the best documentary at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) following the release of the list of nominees.
Taiwo Adeyemi, Femi Odugbemi, Eugene Mbugua, Allen Onyige, Saitabao Kaiyare and Lawrence Adejumo were named as nominees for the award which is in its eighth edition. The award ceremony was kept on hold last yeards due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The nominees were recognised for their outstanding work. Adeyemi was nominated for Road2Blow, Odugbemi was recognised for Unmasked: Leadership, Trust and the COVID-19 Pandemic in Nigeria, Mbugua received a nomination for THis Love, Onyige for Sunset in Makoko, Kaiyare for If Objects Could Speak and Adejumo for Streets of Lagos: Dear Little People.
The award recognises excellent documentary production. The last edition was won by Beverly Naya for Skin. The documentary focuses on the stories of Black women in Nigeria who have been treated differently for having dark skin.
Skin won ahead of Hidden Euphoria by Aderogba Adedeji, Against All Odds: A Tale Of Resilience by Aderemi Davies and Ibadan: Yoruba Heritage by Tunde Oladimeji.
AMVCA 8 will be a week-long event featuring a series of activities. The week-long event begins with the opening night on Sunday, May 7 and will run through May 14, when the award night will hold in Lagos.
