It’s certainly not rosy times for respected highlife musician Sunny Neji: plagued by back-to-back failed projects and dwindling engagements, the one-time hit-maker is now relying on old glory, working hard to keep relevant and remain in the mainstream at a time when the scene is dominated by new school players – most of whom were still in diapers when Neji rocked the nation with his nationally-famous ‘Mr Fantastik’. And now, it’s been confirmed that Neji has been dropped from the telecommunications company Globacom’s ambassador roaster.
Neji was appointed an ambassador for the telecoms company back in 2008 along with other acts like D’banj and Sammie Okposo with a whooping N20M contract. The Cross River state born act’s contract reportedly expired last year.
Sources say GLO was only ready to renew his contract (as well as several others, including Dbanj, we’re told) with a 40% deduction. Neji refused to put pen to paper.
‘Sunny Neji is no more an ambassador of Globacom. The contract ended mutually and everybody is welcome. It was not a question of anybody being dropped‘, Onyekachi Nwosu, Head of public relations, Globacom told a PUNCH columnist last week.
Neji’s management outfit Now Muzik have also confirmed the news but insists both parties ended the contract mutually. ‘Sunny Neji’s terms of contract ran out and it ended there. He was not dropped. Both parties still remain very much good friends’, Don T of Now Muzik tells Nigerian Entertainment Today.
In other news, the multi-award-winning singer has released his ‘Timeless‘ album and is selling for N1,000.
