Following the tragic killing of South Africa football team captain, Senzo Meyiwa who was shot dead by gun men on Sunday, October 26, 2014, the South African Police Service is offering a reward of $14,000 for anyone who can provide them with information about his killers.
In a statement, the South African Police Service said: ‘Two men had entered the house, around 20:00 (18:00 GMT). A third man remained outside. All three fled on foot after shots were fired, in what local media reports say was an attempted burglary.
One of the men had reportedly demanded Meyiwa’s mobile phone. A reward of $14,000 has been offered for information leading to the suspects’ arrest.’
Late Meyiwa, who was the goalkeeper and captain of South Africa’s senior football team, popularly known as the Bafana Bafana, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, after the shooting incident in Johannesburg.
A tragedy that has sparked outrage in the country, with many wondering why the 27-year old, who was popular and considered a hero by many, would be killed in such a gruesome manner, the police is ready to using any means necessary to apprehend the killers.
Late Meyiwa was playing his club football for Orlando Pirates FC in the country’s local league.
