Dino Melaye is one of the most colourful characters to hold office in Nigeria, to say the least. And I don’t mean his fashion sense.
His choice of language and activities in the Senate has been widely reported. On one occasion, he implored Nigerians not to emulate a former Edo State governor whom he said opted not to ‘patronize made-in-Nigeria women but a foreign one’.
On another occasion, he was reported to have threatened to beat a female senator and impregnate her. In his rebuttal, he said he couldn’t impregnate her because she was past menopause.
He’s even been in a couple of fights on the floor of the National Assembly.

In spite of all these, the association of the press corps that cover the National Assembly organised an awards ceremony and named Dino Melaye as ‘The Most Distinguished Senator 2016’. He received his award from Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Here is the dictionary meaning of distinguished: made conspicuous by excellence.
Senator Dino Melaye has been the ‘most excellent Nigerian senator’ in 2016.
I can’t shout. Let us leave it.
