Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, leads the Class of 2021 for the fifth edition of NET Honours People’s Choice Awards with six nominations.
The singer-songwriter has been on a roll recently. When ‘Duduke’ was released in 2020, it quickly became a chart-topper, rising to number 1 on the Top Songs Chart on Apple Music Nigeria. In five months, the song garnered over 20 million views on YouTube.
Later that year, she released her second EP, Restless II, to critical acclaim. She also featured on two songs: ‘Know You’ with Ladipoe and ‘Running To You’ with Chike, which earned her several top 10 spots on the charts.
Simi started her music career as a gospel singer and gained prominence with her hit single ‘Tiff’. She has since released three albums, won several awards, and launched her record label, Studio Brat, in June 2019.
Simi is nominated in six NET Honours People’s Choice 2021 categories, the highest for any individual this year. She received nominations for Most Popular Musician – Female, Most Searched Musician – Female, Most Popular Couple alongside her husband, Adekunle Gold, Most Played Song – Pop for Duduke, Most Played Song – R&B for Running To You, and Most Played Song – Hip Hop for Know You.
