Adekunle Gold and Simi have welcomed their baby girl into the world – Adejare Kosoko. The couple got married in January 2019 and revealed Simi’s pregnancy a few months ago, when she was already far along.
Adekunle Gold shared the emotional news of his daughter’s birth in his newsletter to fans, he lovingly refers to her as Deja. He says ‘I cried when Adejare came out. I cried when I first held her. I can’t lie. I still stare at her and shed a few more.’
He also used the opportunity to address the recent global unrest against systemic racism faced in America and rape and sexual violence in Nigeria. ‘The violence against women, against black people and this pandemic was just too much. I had to log out for a bit.’
He shares his hopes for a brighter future for his daughter, ‘while we fight for today’s problem, let’s also fight for our future. We must ensure that we don’t raise our future with the same consciousness that raised us.’
He continues, ‘we must raise sons who respect, value and revere women and raise daughters that are fearless.’
Though he makes no mention of how Simi is fairing in the newsletter, he says ‘I truly believe if our women are empowered and allowed to lead, we would all be so much better for it. I know this first hand because Simi is powerful and my life is better for it.’
The couple have been in the United States since the global lockdown caused by the pandemic started.
