Veteran actor, Robert De Niro is known for always voicing his political views loud and clear, particularly as a heavy Donald Trump critic. De Niro was to make a speech introducing actress Meryl Streep to receive her award for ‘best actress’ at the National Review Board, Gala. He instead decided that a bashing of the President was first necessary.
According to a transcript released by the New York Times, “Today the world suffering from real Donald Trump. Come on. You know. What are we talking about? This f—ing idiot is the president.” he added “It’s the Emperor’s new clothes.”
The actor’s opinions were not at all scripted with his speech but that was not going to deter him from sharing his views on the President of the United States. However, Meryl who plays Katharine Graham in Steven Spielberg’s newspaper drama “The Post” did not seem to mind as she greeted him with a kiss as she received her award.
The actor seemed to calm down right after his rant following the kiss from one of his older co-stars and ‘Best Actress’ recipient of the night, Meryl Streep.
