Less than 24 hours after Funk maestro Chuck Brown was reported dead, veteran black-American singer/songwriter LaDonna Gaines better known as Donna Summers has also been reported to have died hours ago after a battle with cancer at 63.
According to TMZ, The five-time Grammy Award winner passed away in Florida. Summers reportedly tried as much as possible to keep her deteriorating health away from fans and was wrapping up her latest album.
Summers’ reps have at the time of this report not confirmed the news.
Popularly called the ‘Queen of Disco’, Summers was best known for her ‘70s hit songs ‘I Feel Love’, ‘Last Dance’ and ‘Bad Girls’. She was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the US Billboard chart, and she also charted four number-one singles in the US within a thirteen-month period.
She released 23 albums in her four decade-plus singing career.
Summers married actor Helmuth Sommer in 1973 but got divorced two years later. She later married Brooklyn Dreams musician Bruce Sudano in 1980 and the couple went on to have two daughters, Brooklyn, born in 1981 and Amanda the following year.
