According to Power Rangers director, Dean Israelite, the film is set to become the first major superhero flick to feature an out and out gay lead character.
‘For Trini, really she’s questioning a lot about who she is. She hasn’t figured it out yet,’ Israelite said to THR.

‘She hasn’t fully figured it out yet. I think what’s great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, ‘That’s OK.’ The movie is saying, ‘That’s OK,’ and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe.’
Trini, the Yellow Ranger, played by Becky G, is revealed in one scene to be having girlfriend problems.
This is coming soon after the controversy that has trailed Beauty and the Beast and its gay character – LeFou – with Disney refusing to cut the scene.
Interestingly, the film has performed fantastically in box offices around the world, smashing opening weekend records after grossing £18.4m.
Power Rangers will be released on March 24, 2017.
