On Thursday, September 8, 2011, colleagues, fans and family of the late Lady of Songs made their way to Entrance A of the National Theater, Iganmu, Lagos for the public lying in state of Chrsity Essien-Igokwe. Popular musicians like Onyeka Onwenu, Yeni Kuti, Blackky and Tee-Mac were present to pay respect to the singer who died at the age of 50.
The ceremony was anchored by veteran broadcaster Bisi Olatilo. Although poorly attended, the arena was beautified by the Akwa Ibom Choir and various cultural performers. The body arrived in a white coffin and was ushered in by Ebony Funeral Service.
