The court drama surrounding pioneer Nollywood actor, Fred Amata, over unpaid rent, was put to rest on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, as a Surulere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, ordered him to pay up the amount owed to his landlord.
The plaintiff, Pa I Fadoyebo, dragged the actor to court in September 2010, over unpaid rent amounting to N600,000, which he claimed the actor owed him from the period of September 2009 to October 2010.
According to records made available to the court, the landlord claimed the rent had accumulated over the said property, a four-bedroom bungalow in Surulere, Lagos.
Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi, who passed the judgement, said the actor had 14 days to pay up.
However, Amata was reportedly absent in court throughout the proceedings, and his legal representative, Mr Chris Okoh, was not in court during delivery of the judgement. When the matter was first brought up in September 2011, Amata told NET that his absence at the court was because he was mourning the death of his mother.
Fred Amata has starred in a number of Nollywood movies in a career spanning decades and is the brother of actor, Zack Amata and popular director, Jeta Amata.
