MultiChoice owners of DSTV has announced it will dedicate a 24 hour television channel in South Africa to the murder trial of Olympian Oscar Pistorius.
The cable television provider said that a temporary channel will launch March 2, the day before Pistorius a double amputee goes on trial in a Pretoria, South Africa court for killing his girlfriend, ESPN reports..
This will not be the first time that DSTV will be dedicating a channel to an event, as they have temporary channels for reality TV programs like ‘Idols’ and ‘Big Brother Africa’.
The Pistorius channel will be called ‘The Oscar Pistorius Channel. Trial judge Thokzille Masipi has not yet decided if television cameras will be allowed to record images of court proceedings.
MultiChoice Head of Content Alletta Alberst said the station wants to provide a rich variety of content for television and social media during the trial and further said, ‘the channel plans to give inside information on the highly controversial case in South Africa’.
Oscar Pistorius became a celebrated sporting hero in 2012 as he became the first double amputee to compete at the Olympics but the world was stunned when he killed his 29-year-old girlfriend Reeva Steakamp, a reality TV star, through the curtains of his toilet on Valentine’s Day February 14, 2013.
