The hope of fans anticipating the cinema release of the Half of a Yellow Sun movie in Nigeria has yet again been dashed by another postponement.
A PR rep for the movie, Big Sam Media, confirmed this development to NET, adding that the movie will not start showing until later in the month following the refusal of the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board to issue certification for the movie.
‘I’m afraid the movie will not be showing today any more, neither will it be showing in few days time but till much later in the month. The producers are working very hard not to disappoint the expectations of the fans,’ he said.
The movie was originally scheduled to begin showing in Nigeria on Tuesday, April 25, 2014, but on that day, the Nigerian producers, Shareman Media and Film One Distribution released a statement informing the public of a week-long postponement and blamed it on NFVCB’s refusal to certify the movie.
NFVCB is yet to respond to our inquiries, and it has not disclosed the reason behind the delay in approvals.
However, unconfirmed reports have it that it may not be unconnected to the story line, which is based on the Nigerian civil war.
Directed by Nigerian playwright-director, Biyi Bandele, the movie stars international acts, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton and Anika Noni-Rose as well as Genevieve Nnaji, Onyeka Onwenu and OC Ukeje.
