Former NFL and movie star OJ Simpson will in a few hours, ask to be released early from prison.
The 70 year old has served 9 years out of the 33 years he was sentenced to in 2008 for robbery and kidnapping.
He’s eligible for parole and will state his case to a four member board who will determine if he should be freed or not.
OJ Simpson has been a representation of both good and evil within the American system: he was a much loved athlete who went into movies after retirement but was tried for the murder of his ex-wife and her friend in 1995. He was acquitted of those charges but has been a hate figure in the US. The case was made into a the tv series An American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson.
He was sent to jail for robbery and kidnapping in 2008, a charge he also denies and explains it as he retrieving his stolen souvenirs.
One of the accusers from that case Bruce Fromong, will speak on OJ’s behalf at the hearing and ask that he be released.
Like his 1995 trial that was aired on television, his parole hearing will also be televised starting at 6pm Nigerian time.
