Leading ICT company, MTN held a surprise announcement on Sunday, February 16, 2020, to introduce their new music reality TV show, “MTN Yello Star” at their head offices at Falomo, Ikoyi.
Nse Ikpe Etim, Chidinma, Afeez Oyetoro (aka Saka), Chinedu Emmanuel (aka Nedu Wazobia), amongst others joined MTN as they announced the new show. Yello Star was created to groom musical talents by providing a lifetime opportunity to turn their dreams and aspirations into reality.
Rahul De, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Nigeria talked about the reason for starting the new show. He said, “We know that there are a lot of talented people in Nigeria who need to turn up their musical careers. This platform will help launch them to musical heights. We have a wealth of experience in supporting Nigerian talent and are confident we can improve on our past successes”.
Olisa Adibua who hosted the event also talked about how MTN has for many years, continued to support the Nigerian entertainment industry with previous talent shows, the MTN Foundation, endorsements and sponsorships.
Online auditions and submissions on the MTN app and across social media platforms begin today. Any Nigerian above the age of 18, regardless of what mobile network they use can audition to be a part of the show. All applicants have to do is post a video of themselves singing a song of their choice on social media, tag @mtnng and use the official hashtag, #MTNYelloStar. If they are picked by a select group of judges who are top music professionals, they will be contacted to go on to the next stage.
Final Steps
Regional auditions will be held in Abuja, Enugu and Lagos. Finalists from the auditions will proceed to the ‘incubation hub’ in Lagos, where they will be coached by experts in the music industry in several areas as they aim for the top prize. The competition will run until June 2020.
