
American-born Nigerian writer, Nnedi Okorafor has announced that her book, Who Fears Death has been optioned by production house – HBO for production.
Who Fears Death is now in its early development as a TV series and it is being executive produced by novelist, screenwriter and television producer, George RR Martin.

RR Martin is best known for international bestselling series of epic fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire which was adapted into hugely popular HBO drama series, Game of Thrones.
Nnedi Okorafor’s novel takes place in a fictional post-apocalyptic future version of Sudan, where the light-skinned Nuru oppress the dark-skinned Okeke.
The protagonist, Onyesonwu (Igbo for ‘who fears death’), is an Ewu, i.e. the child of an Okeke woman raped by a Nuru man. On reaching maturity, she goes on a quest to defeat her sorcerous father Daib using her magical powers.
