The football World Cup championship is like no other, and this time we have fans from around the world heading to Russia. You witness some skilled teams, some beautiful experiences and great hopes. For the Nigerian side, a lot was at stake to win their opening match against Croatia.

The Nigerian Super Eagles knew they had a hard task on hand. With teams like Iceland and Croatia, Nigeria knew they had to perform to their best.
The bet, for their match against the Croatia National Football team, was that each player would be awarded a bonus of $10,000. Sponsors and the Nigerian government had promised the rewards in order to encourage players.

A Look at The Loss
Sure, the Nigerian team did try their best; however, it just wasn’t a day for them.
The Nigerian Super Eagles had to face defeat at the hands of Team Croatia. The score showed 2-0 and it was clear that the Nigerian Super Eagles was nowhere even near to scoring to win.
Nigerian fans who were more than enthusiastic to watch the match had to face disappointment. In spite of their best efforts, Croatians proved to be too tough a side for them.
The defeat did make them a stronger team though and we hope that the Nigerian side bounces back in their next World Cup match. There are still a few World Cup matches left for them, and they face Iceland as well as Argentina. They would need to win both of the matches to be able to proceed to the next round and it sure isn’t going to be easy.
How is the Reward going to Help?
The reward, offered by the government and the sponsors, is supposed to be just a bonus for the team. Assumedly, there were more such offers to the team for each match that they managed to win. Some believe that the team lost out on as much as a $300 k match bonus.
To be fair, the loss did bite the players hard. They might have struggled really hard to get where they wanted to be but it was just not their day for that matter. The day didn’t start well but we do hope that the team does not give up hope and keep trying for the best.
