World-famous Nigerian artiste, Wizkid came tops in two categories at this year’s edition of NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards. The wildly-loved pop star emerged ‘Most Popular Male Musician’ and winner of ‘Most Played R&B Song’ for Smile.
Before the virtual announcements began, fans had spent days going back and forth about who should take home the award. Many Nigerians tuned in on different social media channels to find out who would be honoured this year.
Wizkid took home the ‘Most Popular Male Musician’ award, beating out other major contenders: Davido, Fela, Adekunle Gold, 2baba, and Falz. He also faced fierce competition in the ‘Most Played R&B Song’ category going toe to toe with TUC and BemiSoul, Ayra Starr, as well as Chike and Simi.
This is Wizkid’s first-ever NET Honours double win, and fans took to social media to celebrate, referencing his greatness.
One said, “Zero competition”, while another wrote on twitter, “NO competition”.
Another fan is convinced that Wizkid was created to win: “Big Wiz and Winnings be like Shrek and Fiona”.
Fans are so impressed by his recent streak of winnings, especially since the release of ‘Made in Lagos’. One said, “We go do a compilation of MIL award era soon”. Another also tweeted, “Just collecting awards ‘ear and dear’”.
One even thought to give a speech on behalf of Wizkid, “On behalf of Wizkid, we dedicated this one to the haters always doubting our tweets about his achievements and googling it. 🤣🤣🤣“
