Nigerian sprinter and former Olympic Silver medallist, Sunday Bada is dead. Nigerian National Newspaper ThisDay has reported.
Bada, who was the current technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), is reported to have slumped and died at the National Stadium, Lagos Monday evening, December 12, 2011.
The 41-year-old is fondly remembered for his brave feat as part of the Nigerian team that won the silver medal in 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2000 Olympics held in Sydney, Australia setting a national record of 2:58.68 minutes in that race.
Bada won three medals at World Indoor Championships, including a gold medal in 1997. He also won silver medals at the 1993 (Toronto) and 1995 (Barcelona) competitions.
A statement is yet to be released by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria as at the time of this report. A call was however put through to the telephone number posted on the official website. ‘I’m not in the mood to talk please‘, a woman responded when NET tried to ask a few questions concerning the matter.
