Nicki Minaj is stirring up headlines once again, this time taking direct aim at hip-hop mogul Jay-Z in a series of fiery posts and pointed lyrics.
On Tuesday, the rap queen called out Jay-Z on X (formerly Twitter), accusing him of owing her between $100 million and $200 million, allegedly linked to the sale of Tidal, the music streaming service Jay-Z once co-owned alongside artists like Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, and Rihanna.
“We’ve calculated about 100–200MM so far. #JayZ call me to settle this karmic debt. It’s only collecting more interest,” she wrote, before adding, “You still in my TOP 5 tho. Let’s get it n**a. And anyone still calling him Hov will answer to God for the blasphemy.”*
Minaj didn’t stop there. In a follow-up post, she shared plans to use the money—if and when it’s returned—for a noble cause:
“I’m going to use some of the money #JayZ owes me to send some of my Barbz to college, pay their school fees & student loans via my #StudentOfTheGame charity.”
The unexpected blast comes amid growing speculation of a rift between the two rap heavyweights. Earlier this month, Nicki also reposted fans on X who criticized Jay-Z for allegedly short-changing her in the Tidal deal. “#JayZ owes Nicki Minaj money & an apology,” one fan wrote, to which Nicki responded with a subtle but telling emoji.
Jay-Z launched Tidal in 2015 with the help of several A-list artists, including Nicki Minaj. However, when the platform was sold to Jack Dorsey’s Square (now Block, Inc.) for roughly $300 million in 2021, Minaj claims she was only offered $1 million, far less than she believes she’s owed.
Adding fuel to the fire, Nicki Minaj took another jab at Jay-Z in her verse on Lil Wayne’s “Banned From NO” remix, rapping:
“NFL, fire some n**s and then call us.”
The line is widely interpreted as a reference to her ongoing support for Lil Wayne, who was reportedly passed over for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in favor of Kendrick Lamar—a deal that involved Jay-Z’s partnership with the NFL.
As of now, Jay-Z has not responded to Nicki Minaj’s claims.
