Simisola Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, is the most popular female musician in Nigeria, according to data from over 8 million users on ID Africa’s media platforms.
NET Honours recognises achievers in the entertainment industry through a thorough analysis of audience search results, social media interactions and trends, taking into account the year in review.
The past year has been one of the best as an artiste for Simi; the video for her hit single Duduke recently crossed the 40 million views mark on YouTube. In addition, she won two awards at the 2021 Headies award: Best Collaboration for her collaboration with Ladipoe on ‘Know You’ and the first-ever Songwriter of the Year award for her song ‘Duduke’.
She came out on top in this tightly contested category beating out four other superstar artistes. She was up against Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Waje and Seyi Shay.
The NET Honours People’s Choice Awards are based on engagement from over 8 million internet users reached across websites, social media and related channels of Netng, Neusroom, 234Star and Orin between June 2020 and May 2021. The event celebrates musicians, actors, comedians, reality TV stars, events and public personalities who are subjects of Nigeria’s most exciting conversations in the year under review.
Simi was also nominated in five other categories for the NET Honours Class of 2021. These include: Most Searched Female Musician, Most Popular Couple (alongside her husband Adekunle Gold), Most Played Pop Song (for the hit single “Duduke”), Most Played R&B Song (for her collaboration with Chike on “Running To You”) and Most Played Hip-Hop Song (for her collaboration with Ladipoe on “Know You”).
