Wizkid has emerged NET Honours Class of 2021 Most Popular Male Musician after beating off stiff competition from Fela, Adekunle Gold, 2baba, Davido and Falz.
NET Honours is an annual people’s choice award that recognises top performers and events in the entertainment industry and public sector that have shaped the year through a thorough analysis of audience search results, consumer interest, social media interactions and trends.
Wizkid was determined to please his fans during the year in review, releasing his long-awaited ‘Made In Lagos’ in October 2020. He also dropped the hit singles – “Smile”, “No Stress” (which currently has 11 million views on YouTube) and “Ginger” (which has 17 million views on YouTube).
The release of his much-anticipated album titled Welcome to Lagos in 2020 threw his fans, dubbed Wizkid FC, into a frenzy. His collaboration with Beyonce for the hit song “Brown Skin Girl” earned him the Soul Train Music Award for The Ashford & Simpsons Songwriter’s Award and the BET Award. The music video of the song also earned him a Grammy award the following year.
At the 2021 Headies, Wizkid won the awards for Headies’ Viewer’s Choice, Song Of The Year (for “Joro”), and Artiste of the Year.
