The NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards, returns for a fifth edition on Sunday, June 20, 2021. This year, ID Africa, organisers of NET Honours, are introducing five new music categories.
NET Honours is an annual recognition of top performers in the entertainment industry and public sector based on audience data from ID Africa’s media channels. NET Honours recognises achievers in the entertainment industry through a thorough analysis of audience search results, consumer interest, social media interactions and trends.
For the first time, organisers are adding new award categories celebrating the most played songs in Nigeria during the period under review: June 2020 to May 2021. These awards will include songs across five genres, namely: Pop, Hip-Hop, Alternative, Street Hop and R&B-Soul.
According to organisers, the Most Played Songs categories are based on verifiable data supplied by Corrents, a Nigerian music analytics startup. The company analyses data from airplay on over 100 local radio stations and streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.
ID Africa CEO Femi Falodun, says “NET Honours is a one-of-its-kind platform where we recognise and celebrate some of Nigerians’ favourite celebrities and public figures, strictly based on data and insights from our network of media platforms and social channels. Last year, we recognised over 73 individuals and organisations and reached over 10 million people in 31 countries. We expect to reach an estimated online audience of 15 million on June 20, when we announce this year’s winners.”
Corrents, partnering ID Africa for the music categories, was founded in 2019 by Asemota Ize-Iyamu and Oluwatosin Oni. With its headquarters in Lagos, it is focused on providing analytics for Nigerian music, with a view to helping observers get a better understanding of the Nigerian music landscape across all genres, and aiding stakeholders to make data-informed decisions in the Nigerian music market.
To find out the winners in these new categories, follow the conversation on Netng’s social media with #NETHonours and follow @theNETng on Twitter, Facebook and IG to find out who wins. NET Honours winners will be unveiled at 5 pm on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
