Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has emerged as the Most Popular Person in Nigeria at the 2021 edition of the NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards.

NET Honours is an annual people’s choice award that recognises top performers and events in the entertainment industry and public sector that have shaped the year through a thorough analysis of audience search results, consumer interest, social media interactions and trends.
Tacha was nominated as Most Popular Person’ alongside former Big Brother Naija housemates Mercy Eke and Mike Edwards. She also went toe to toe against other distinguished personalities like late Ibidunni Ighodalo, podcaster and business consultant Feyikemi ‘FK’ Abudu, and a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
She started as a small-time Instagram influencer with racy pictures and an Instagram shop before becoming one of the Big Brother Naija’ Pepper Dem’ Housemates in 2019. Tacha has stayed in the middle of conversations since she was disqualified from BBNaija after 89 days in the house.
Her fan base, the Titans, made sure to trend her name daily for a whole year, and she’s still hitting trend tables two years after. After fiercely and loudly lending her voice to the End SARS protests of October 2020, Tacha won even more fans. She continues to lend her voice to social issues, share controversial opinions, and bag new endorsements.
This is Tacha’s second NET Honours for the second year in a row after winning the Class of 2020’s award for ‘Most Popular BBNaija Star’. Other prominent Nigerians who have won this award include President Muhammadu Buhari and Bukola Saraki.
The NET Honours People’s Choice Awards are based on engagement from over 8 million internet users reached across websites, social media and related channels of Netng, Neusroom, 234Star and Orin between June 2020 and May 2021. The event celebrates musicians, actors, comedians, reality TV stars, events and public personalities who are subjects of Nigeria’s most exciting conversations in the year under review.
