A South African serial rapist has been sentenced to 1, 535 years in prison after he was found guilty of raping 29 women.
The rapist, who is popularly known as Morake of Ivory Park, Midrand had pleaded not guilty to 175 charges, including 30 of rape, 41 of kidnapping, 24 of robbery with aggravating circumstances, three of attempted robbery and one of attempted murder. He was found guilty on a total of 144 counts.
According to a report by Sowetan, the judge, Rean Strydom, passed the final verdict on the man at the Johannesburg High Court on Friday, February 20, 2015, by sentencing Morake to an outrageous 1,535 years in prison.
The years, which will run concurrently, includes 30 life terms for the counts of rape, 15 years on each count of robbery with aggravating circumstances, 10 years for attempted murder, five years on each kidnapping count and five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Judge Rean Strydom’s hash verdict on the 39 year old rapist came through his lack of remorse for the crimes and how he has persisted in denying his involvement throughout the hearings.
It is believed that Morake began his kidnapping and rape spree in 2007 by targeting couples either in the street or in their cars.
