
About 20 persons have allegedly been killed as soldiers reportedly surrounded and opened fire on a Shiite base in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Eyewitness accounts say a truckload of soldiers arrived the Husainiya area where the base is located and ‘all of a sudden we heard gun shots and many people died.’
It remains unclear whether the civilians were harmed at the time of the shooting.
Quoting Mr. Usman, a colonel, The News Agency of Nigeria says the clash resulted from an assassination attempt on the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai yesterday on his way to pay a courtesy call on the Emir.
