Effective from January 19, 2015, Nigerians will pay N87 for a litre of petrol as against the price of N97 that was obtainable before now.
The N10 reduction in pump price was announced a few hours ago by Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The reduction in pump price of petrol is one measure that several experts have clamoured for in the past few weeks owing to the drop in the price of Premium Motor Spirit on the global scene.
It would be recalled that the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration had increased the price of fuel in the country from N65 to N97 after announcing its decision to the stop the subsidy payments on petroleum products in December 2011.
The increase in pump price led to the #OccupyNigeria protests of January 2012 featuring a massive turnout of Nigerians on the streets in protest against the policy considered as draconian and harsh on the populace.
