A young female suicide-bomber believed to be about 7-years old killed herself and seven others in a suicide bombing in Potiskum, Yobe State, Nigeria yesterday, Sunday, February 22, 2015.
Sunday’s bombing in Potiskum was the second suicide attack in or near the market where new and second-hand phones are sold and repaired. The first attack occurred January 11, 2015 when two suicide bombers, one of whom appeared to be aged around 15, blew themselves up outside the market, killing 6 people and injuring 37 others.
The initial death toll given by witnesses and hospital sources was 6, counting the bomber and 5 others, but medical sources at the state-run hospital in Potiskum later added that two of those injured also died not long after.
According to reports, 19 people injured in the blast were taken to the hospital and remain in critical condition. Several attacks have been blamed on Boko Haram, and the Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan recently conceded his government initially underrated the Islamist extremist group.
