In August 2014, comedian Julius Agwu declared his intention to run for governor in his native Rivers State in the 2015 general elections.
Although mixed reactions trailed the announcement, the comedian and his camp were resolute, confirming and reassuring Nigerians that Julius was indeed serious about his political ambitions and he was scheduled to officially declare his political party and other details at his comedy show tagged ‘The Declaration’ which held at the Transcorp Hilton hotel Abuja, on Sunday, October 5.
At the show, the comedian evaded all jokes and questions directed at finding out if his political ambition is still on course.
NET investigations have, however, revealed that the comedian has officially pulled out of the governorship race for now, due to zoning-related reasons.
The incumbent governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi is from the Ikwere area, which is also where Julius Agwu is from. A member of Agwu’s team, who spoke to NET on condition of anonymity said: ‘You know Julius and the current governor are very good friends, and he’s the one that called Julius to a meeting and advised him to step down, especially because they are both from the same area.’
At the moment, sources say Julius is still weighing his options, and even though he has agreed to pull out of the governorship race, he still intends to get involved in politics.
