Manager, Content & Partnership, Etisalat Nigeria, Dayo Adeyelure has advised that Nigerian entertainers should take ownership and stop waiting for government to help them.
Speaking as a panelist at the fourth edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference {NECLive}, Dayo said, ‘My advice for entertainers, I will say to them to first take ownership. The best the government can do is give you enabling environment. Government will not come and put the music in the hand of me who monetizes content. The government is not going to do that.’
He added: ‘How are you taking ownership? I see someone handing CD over to me saying I want you to listen to my music. It’s the Internet of Things; I mean, the cost you used in producing one CD, you can buy 10 MB of data.
‘If you buy 10MB of data and you load your music online, you are reaching thousands of people and you are giving me one CD that cost N100 that I am not going to listen to. It’s a digital age; we have Cloud 9, we have My Music. There are a lot of platforms you can use and it’s accessible as well. You just have to move with the trend.’
