Rising DJ and daughter of billionaire oil magnate, DJ Cuppy was the official DJ at the inauguration dinner for Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2015.
This left some Nigerians who wondering how she landed the job ahead of the top DJs in the land. A lot of people argued that her father, Femi Otedola must have had a role to play in getting her to perform at the gig.
In a recent chat with NET however, DJ Cuppy has cleared the air, explaining that the job came without her dad having anything to do with it.
‘First, it’s important I explain that I’m a Tourism ambassador for the Nigerian campaign and a lot of people ask how it came about. It happened when I released a song with Tunji Oyelana titled ‘I Love My Country’ which is a patriotic song that somehow got to officials of the ministry and Minister of Tourism at that time, Edem Duke and they liked it.’
She added that with the need to represent women at the event and young Nigerians, the honour was extended to her, which she says she would always cherish.
‘So with that song and my potential role as a tourism ambassador, the inauguration ball committee thought it would be great to have someone representing a new Nigeria and the female gender. Personally I feel that a female DJ is unique and it was such an honour to be part of the presidential inauguration dinner and I look forward to working with the new tourism officials as well.’
