The Country Manager, ViacomCBS Networks Africa, Bada Akintunde Johnson, will join other panelists, on Friday, June 25, 2021, for the MTN ‘Drug Convos’, a virtual event to discuss the drug abuse conundrum among Nigerian youths.
He will be part of a panel that will speak on the theme: ‘Share Facts on Drugs. Save Lives’
The event is organised by MTN Foundation in partnership with Netng and Business Day in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking also known as ‘World Drug Day’, observed annually on June 26 since 1989.
MTN Foundation launched the Anti Substance Abuse Programme (ASAP) in December 2018 to create awareness about drug and substance abuse and to discourage non-users from taking the first step to possible addiction.
Akintunde Johnson says MTN ASAP’s interventions provide an “opportunity to discuss solutions to the menace that substance abuse is in our society especially for our youth population.”
According to statistics by the Country representative UNODC, Oliver Stolpe, over 20 million Nigerians from age 15 and above admitted to having used drugs at least once between 2018 and 2019. Of this figure, 3 million required some form of medical attention as a result of substance abuse.
He will be joined by Odunayo Sanya, the Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation; Pastor Tony Rapu, Senior Pastor, House of Freedom; Dr. Maymunah Kadiri who is the founder of Pinnacle Medical Services; Oliver Stolpe, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Olawale Eso.
