David ‘Davido‘ Adeleke has been crowned the biggest artiste in Africa, MTV says so.
The Nigerian Pop star won the ‘Artiste of the Year‘ award at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards beating off very strong competition from group nominees SA’s Mafikizolo, Mi Casa and Uhuru plus fellow Nigerian acts Psquare.
Davido in the last 12 months has grown from being a local act to Pop idol status into other African countries, taking his music into East and Southern Africa. His hit singles ‘One of a kind’, ‘Skelewu‘ and ‘Aye‘ are fan favourites in many African countries.
The Pop singer who also walked away with the ‘Best Male’ award says it’s been a ‘long time coming’. ‘I’ll like to thank God, my family, my country Nigeria and Africa for voting for me. It’s been a long time coming for us‘, Davido said as he picked up the award at the show which held at the International Convention Centre, Durban on June 7, 2014.
