Legendary Ghanaian beat maker, Edward Nana Poku Osei, better known as ‘Da Hammer,’ has described most artistes in his country as unprofessional.
Speaking in recent interview with News One, the founder and CEO of The Last Two Music Group in Ghana ranted about the level of unprofessionalism of music artistes affecting the industry.
‘It seems to us that most of the artistes now do things like the freestyle; they just do things from the head. The way they go about their stuff is not quite professional, so we decided to go back and deal with artistes that we feel deserve to work with us.’
Da Hammer, whose studio is one of the biggest in Ghana, also said his production is not a random platform for all artistes.
‘I don’t do mass production. My studio is a private studio now and I have the power to choose who I want to work with. It is not like the commercial studio that you can walk into and just pay money and record.’
‘We are quite ‘choosy’. We want a particular breed of artiste to work with. About professionalism and creativity, we want a certain calibre of artistes,’ he added
Da Hammer is also known for grooming some of the best artistes produced by Ghana’s brand of hip hop widely known as hip life such as Obrafour, Tinny, Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie, Ayigbe Edem.
