Reports confirmed that a new deal, which was recently agreed to by Messi, will see him earn basic salary of £16.3m a year with added bonuses. The star will now be paid more than Cristiano Ronaldo (£15m a year).
Although the revised and updated contract will be signed over the next few days the club also confirmed the agreement on itS website, saying: ‘FC Barcelona has reached an agreement to adjust the terms in the contract binding Leo Messi to the club as a professional first-team player.’
The new contract will see Messi move into a second decade with the club. He joined at the age of 13 and came through the junior ranks before making his first-team debut during the 2004-05 seasons.
Messi has won six La Liga titles, three Champions League crowns, two Copa del Reys, two Club World Cups and two European Super Cups.
