As Nigerian Idol auditions continue to unearth hidden music talents, the story of Mathew from Lagos catches everyone’s interest.
The 23-year old was involved in a vehicular accident as a child. According to him, the whole family was travelling, and he sat in the front seat with his uncle. An accident occurred, and due to the impact, his tongue was severed.
For two months, he could not speak and had to undergo speech therapy to learn to talk again.
There was no indication of Mathew’s trauma as he gave his rendition of Timi Dakolo’s Iyawo Mi. Before he finished singing, D’banj, one of the judges, smiled throughout the audition expressing delight at the effortless singing.
Matthew, who works as a caterer, got a golden ticket which allows him into the show. It is yet to be seen how he performs on the big stage, but no one can deny that he gave a performance worthy of commendation.
